EverSmoke Electronic Cigarettes – 1st Time User Reactions

Watch as cigarette smokers use the EverSmoke Electronic Cigarette (ecig) for the 1st time as they experience the benefits of the smokeless cigarette. Electric cigarettes have been the latest miracle in helping smokers make better smoking alternatives…

There should not be the slightest doubt in the mind of any smoker that quitting smoking is a great idea. Unfortunately, like many great ideas, giving up tobacco is easier to talk about than to accomplish. As a smoker for over 40 years, I probably tried to quit at least 20 times. The longest I was able to stop smoking using methods like willpower, nicotine patches and pills was about 4 weeks.

Why did I fail to quit smoking so many times? What was missing in my program? Certainly, quitting cold turkey is the least likely way to succeed but why didn’t traditional nicotine replacement work for me?

The answer to my questions became obvious when I learned about the electric cigarette and ordered my first electronic cigarette starter kit. As I opened the box and assembled the device, everything became as clear as a cloudless day. While nicotine replacement will provide the smoker with the nicotine their body craves, there is so much more involved in smoking than just satisfying your addiction to nicotine. No other quit smoking device so closely matches every aspect of smoking a real cigarette as the electronic cigarette.

Smoking involves a complicated ritual that becomes deeply ingrained in the smoker’s mind. Every step of the process becomes part of the smoking habit. Lighting a cigarette, holding it in your hand, putting it to your lips, dragging on the cigarette and inhaling the smoke. The deep satisfaction of feeling your lungs fill with smoke and the calm that follows as the nicotine enters your bloodstream, travels through your body and finally triggers receptors in your brain.

Consider how much is actually involved in smoking and you will begin to understand why it is so hard to quit. It becomes much easier to grasp why patches and pills are rarely successful and why quitting by willpower alone is such a struggle.

The electronic cigarette is a game changer. The electronic cigarette looks just like a real cigarette. It allows you to hold it in your hand, put in between your lips and inhale. The difference is that there is no tobacco involved and nothing is burned. You are not inhaling smoke but rather a vapor that contains a small amount of nicotine in every drag. You are able to satisfy your addiction to nicotine without inhaling the more than 5000 chemicals and 59 known carcinogens you get with every drag of tobacco.

How Does It Work?

Electronic cigarette starter_kit

For those readers who have never seen an electronic cigarette, here is a brief description. The electronic cigarette is a two part metal tube that look just like a real cigarette. The larger part, which corresponds to the part of the cigarette that contains the tobacco, holds a small lithium ion battery and a heating element. The end of this section has a tiny led that lights up when the user inhales in order to simulate the glowing end of cigarette.

The smaller section of the electronic cigarette matches the filter on a tobacco cigarette and hold a replaceable cartridge full of liquid nicotine solution. Each individual nicotine cartridge is equivalent to one pack of tobacco cigarettes. The two sections can be unscrewed to facilitate replacing the nicotine cartridge and to allow the user to recharge the battery used to power the heating element.

When you drag on the electronic cigarette, the heating element vaporizes a small amount of the nicotine solution and the user inhales the vapor. Each drag gives the user an amount of vapor that is equivalent to the amount of smoke you would get from a drag on a tobacco cigarette. You get the nicotine you need without inhaling all the poisons found in a tobacco cigarette and you get the satisfaction of feeling the vapor fill your lungs.

Getting Started: Choosing An Electronic Cigarette

OK! Now you are more determined than ever to try again to quit smoking. Let’s get you started. The best way to begin using the electronic cigarette is to buy an electronic cigarette starter kit. The starter kit will include the actual electronic cigarette, a recharger that plugs into an ac outlet and replacement nicotine cartridges. The starter kit will also include an instruction manual and many come with a second recharger that plugs into the USB port on a computer. Some deluxe kits may include extras like a fancy leather pouch to carry your electronic cigarette or flavored nicotine cartridges.

There are so many electronic cigarettes to choose from and you may be confused as to how to go about finding the very best one. This is where our old favorite, the World Wide Web, can really come in handy. Open up your web browser and do a search on Goggle for “electronic cigarettes” to find a listing of all the most popular brands. Enter a keyword such as “electronic cigarette reviews” to find detailed reviews of many well known electronic cigarettes. There are even several electronic cigarette blogs on the internet that discuss anything and everything about electronic cigarettes.

Once you have done your research, read the electronic cigarette reviews and visited the electronic cigarette blogs, you can order your electronic cigarette starter kit from your chosen brand’s website. If you live near a major shopping mall, there may even be a kiosk that sells electronic cigarettes. While kiosks are convenient and allow you to avoid waiting for delivery, they usually only sell one specific brand of electronic cigarette. The choice between same day service and buying the exact brand you want is one you will have to make for yourself. Personally, I was lucky. I found the brand I had chosen at my local mall.

The Big Question: Are Electronic Cigarettes Safe And Effective?

Obviously, you want to quit smoking in a safe and effective manner. You are probably wondering just how safe electronic cigarettes really are and if they actually work?

Nictone side effects

Here is what respected tobacco researcher,Dr. Michael Siegel of Boston University has to say about the safety and effectiveness of electronic cigarettes: “Tobacco contains about 5,000 known chemicals with as many as 100,000 more that haven’t yet been identified. E-cigarettes eliminate many of those ingredients. The relevant question is not, are these things safe? But are these things much safer than real cigarettes, and do they help people quit smoking? The answer to both of those questions we know is yes.”

Dr.Siegel went on to say, “The other products (nicotine patches and pills) are only replacing nicotine; this product is also dealing with the behavioral aspect of smoking. Holding and puffing are all part of addiction. The beauty of e-cigs is that they replace most of the behavioral stimuli that are associated with the smoking process. E-cigarettes seem relatively safe—at least safer than smoking regular cigarettes. They are a lot safer than smoking tobacco because there is no tobacco in these devices, only nicotine.”

While the fact that there is no tobacco in electronic cigarettes is certainly a positive step, you may be wondering what benefit there is to using a device that keeps you addicted to nicotine. Happily, there is an effective solution. To make giving up nicotine easier, the nicotine cartridges used in the electronic cigarette come in a wide range of strengths. The user can reduce the strength of the nicotine cartridge every few weeks until they are finally nicotine free as well as tobacco free. Many users have found that by reducing the strength of the nicotine cartridge every 4 to 6 weeks, they were able to slowly and successfully wean themselves off of nicotine completely.

Using the electronic cigarette and following a program of reducing the strength of the nicotine cartridge is certainly one of the safest, most effective ways to quit smoking. Electronic cigarettes have enabled thousands and thousands of smokers to give up tobacco and free themselves of their addiction to nicotine. This has allowed them to live a healthier life without the expense and risks of smoking. If you are ready to kick the tobacco habit, then you really should consider the electronic cigarette.

Electronic Cigarette Smokeless Smoking

During the last generation, the percentage of people who smoke has greatly declined, and it is likely to do so even more. For some, it is easy to stop – they just throw away their last pack, and they think no more about it. For others, and indeed for most others, giving up smoking is far harder. There have been many ways invented and introduced to help them. Some methods have worked better than others.

We have all heard about Electronic cigarettes, and how they can help people quit smoking. They are said to do some truly good things and to help those who try them. Electronic cigarettes are becoming more common as more and more people try to stop smoking. Do they work?

I was just poking around SurfKY, when I found this personal testimonial: I think it might help people decide whether or not to try e-cigarettes as a way to stop smoking.

E-Cigs—Just Blowing Smoke?

John Bond, a former smoker of 25 years, explains that he was previously consuming between one and two packs of cigarettes each day. As a result, Bond says that he was coughing up large amounts of phlegm nearly every morning—a habit that was quickly becoming an annoyance. While he was well aware of the many health and safety risks associated with smoking, as nearly all smokers are, Melissa notes that acommercial about the effects of secondhand cigarette smoke on childrenfinally broke the camel’s proverbial back.

His wife said, “I always told him that he needed to stop, but it was a TV commercial that prompted him to finally call it quits,” says Melissa. “It shows a mother putting a child in a car seat, making sure all the safety straps are locked down. Then she gets in, rolls up all the windows, and lights a cigarette.”

Surely such a brilliant commercial would motivate anyone to want to stop smoking, no? It was such an effective piece of anti-smoking propaganda that I felt it in my lungs just from reading about it.

“It tasted bad and the battery life was terrible. I didn’t like it at all, but I knew I wanted to go to something else other than cigarettes,” says John. “I tried a few different things, but they just didn’t work. Then, after I tried one of my friend’s E-Cigs for about a week, I went online and ordered one like we sell today. I’ve been cigarette-free since October, 2011.”

Along with a complete lack of cravings, John notes that the E-Cig allowed him to avoid the intense phases of irritabilityassociated with quitting cigarettes cold turkey. His decision to quit even made it possible for him to run an entire 5K race earlier this year without any problems whatsoever—a feat he says would have been next to impossible when he was still smoking 20-40 cigarettes every day. So, it looks like electronic cigarettes are indeed worth a try. I am sure there is no one method of giving up smoking that is appropriated to everybody, but I am equally certain that one of the smoking-cessation techniques that should be high on everyone’s list should be this one, the most recently developed – electronic cigarettes. They worked for John – they really helped him turn his life around, so that he can run races now. It is very possible that e cigarettes added years to his life. Modern technology has done this for John.

Is your life less precious than John’s? I am sure mine isn’t! I have been using these electronic cigarette for many months now, and I have managed to cut down on my use of regular cigarettes. It worked for John, it is beginning to work for me, and I hope it will work for you as well. I share my experience with you; now tell me about yours! We can all stop smoking and be healthy together. It gives me a warm, happy feeling to share my experience with you, and it would be a warmer, happier feeling to know that I have helped you at least this little bit.

Another ban on electronic cigarettes?

All These Bans On Electronic Cigarettes Makes You Think…

From Cohasset Massachusetts comes the latest controversy on electronic cigarettes. Whats the big deal ban after ban it seems the electronic cigarette is taking a serious beating, but meantime one of the biggest cigarettte companies have spent $130 million dollars in cash on Blu Cigs read more here about Lorilards purchase Here

Below is the article about the ban in cohasset, I thought It was preetty interesting and downrite ridiculous!

Cohasset to consider ban on electronic cigarettes

COHASSET — Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigarettes, do not contain tobacco, tar, or any of the harmful chemicals packed into traditional cigarettes. But these modern-day nicotine delivery devices may soon be outlawed in certain parts of Cohasset.

The town’s board of health will ask town meeting voters on May 12 to amend the community’s smoking bylaws to ban the use of e-cigarettes in all locations where traditional cigarettes are not allowed. This includes business offices, restaurants, athletic fields, bars, train stations and other spaces where crowds typically gather.

“It’s a new-make tobacco product,” Cohasset health inspector Tara Tradd said of e-cigarettes.

If voters approve the new by-law, Cohasset would become the first South Shore town to implement the ban on e-cigarettes, according to the non-profit Massachusetts Municipal Association. Nineteen cities and towns in the state, including Boston, have adopted the ban by inserting e-cigarettes into their respective anti-smoking laws.

In recent years, state and federal health officials have raised concerns about the unknown effects of e-cigarettes. Tradd said scientists haven’t researched the products, invented in 2003, thoroughly enough to conclude whether they are harmful.

Many critics of e-cigarettes also claim the devices can lead non-smokers, including children, to smoke traditional cigarettes. Although there are nicotine-free e-cigarettes, many people use the devices to get their nicotine fix without having to inhale the chemicals from traditional cigarettes.

If you are a smoker, you have probably heard many of the reasons you should quit. You are certainly aware of the health risks from smoking tobacco. You may already be feeling some the effects of smoking including shortness of breath, high blood pressure and a host of other aliments. Your body, home and clothing smell like an ashtray and the only person who wants kiss you is another smoker or your mom.

You have probably tried to quit smoking so many times that you have lost count. Every time you light a cigarette, you are aware of how bad it is for you, yet you continue to smoke. You are at the point where smoking has become a unique form of gambling. You are betting that you will defy the odds and live a long, healthy life despite all the risks you are taking by continuing to smoke.

tobacco chemicalsMedical research has shown that what makes smoking so dangerous is the burning of the tobacco. When tobacco is burned, it releases more than 4000 chemicals, of which 69 are known to cause cancer. Cigarette manufacturers are allowed by the United States Government to add another 599 chemicals to a cigarette. Some of these chemicals are designed to speed the uptake of nicotine to your brain, which increases the level of your addiction. Other chemicals are used to enhance the flavor or to control the burn rate of your cigarette. The end result is that you are inhaling a chemical cocktail that is endangering your very existence.

Before you give up hope and start planning for your funeral, you should know that there is help available. There is a marvelous new product on the market that doctors and scientists are calling the most effective device ever invented to help smokers give up tobacco. Smokers are achieving an unprecedented rate of success by using the Electronic Cigarette to quit smoking.

The Electronic Cigarette consists of a two part tube that looks like a real cigarette

The larger section corresponds to the part of the cigarette that contains the tobacco. This section encloses a tiny battery and a heating element. The second part of the electronic cigarette corresponds to the filter of a cigarette and holds the replaceable nicotine cartridge. Each cartridge is equal to one pack of tobacco cigarettes.

When a smoker uses an electronic cigarette, they inhale just like they would a tobacco cigarette.

The heating element vaporizes a small amount of the nicotine solution to simulate the smoke of a real cigarette. The device mimics the entire process of smoking and enables the user to give up tobacco in a safe and effective manner. You get the nicotine your body craves and since you don’t burn any tobacco, you avoid the carcinogens and toxins of tobacco cigarettes.

The nicotine cartridge comes in a wide range of strengths, which allows you to slowly reduce the amount of nicotine you are getting with your Electronic Cigarette.

By simply changing to a milder strength of nicotine cartridge every few weeks, you can wean yourself off of nicotine completely. You can even continue to enjoy your Electronic Cigarette with a nicotine free cartridge, if you wish to continue to use the device after you are no longer consuming nicotine.

There is another major benefit to the Electronic Cigarette

With more and more cities banning smoking in public places, you can still use your Electronic Cigarette when you are out in the world.  As summer rapidly approaches, you can enjoy your Electronic Cigarette at the beach or when you go for a stroll in the park. You won’t have to suffer through hours of misery, waiting anxiously for the day to end, so you can go home and smoke. You won’t have to walk a mile from the beach to the parking area and sit in a hot car with the windows rolled up, just to have a cigarette. With the Electronic Cigarette, you can fully enjoy you family outings in peace this summer.

You have nothing to lose and a lifetime of improved health to gain. With the Electronic Cigarette, you can quit smoking tobacco without the suffering and discomfort many of us have experienced previously. Give your loved ones the biggest gift you can ever give them and quit smoking, so they can enjoy your company for years to come. Give yourself a future without tobacco by using the Electronic Cigarette to kick the tobacco habit.

Exploding Electronic Cigarette Phenomenom

The Electronic Cigarette Seems To Be Exploding Everywhere

So you want to stop smoking! The thought is a great one and should really be actioned on, the only problem is the device or method you choose to use to control your tobacco cravings.

Take this poor woman and then the women in florida and then only the other day a man was hospitalised for 8 days because of an exploding electronic cigarette.

I think more research needs to be done before a manufacturer releases an electronic cigarette for the simple and apparent reason that one can explode on you!

Here is an article I found on the latest exploding electronic cigarette!

Electronic cigarette explodes in Muskogee woman’s hand

Smoking can be hazardous to your health but, in some cases so can trying to quit.

Shona Bear Clark said she had tried to kick her “half a pack a day” habit for some time. She decided to purchase an electronic cigarette from Walmart because friends and family told they had successfully quit smoking using this method.

Shona Bear purchased the OneJoy NJOY electronic cigarette from Walmart on Sunday afternoon and brought it home to give it try. She said the device exploded when she tried to remove it from the package. “It was as loud as firing a gun, but a gun fired right in your face,” said Clark.

Clark and her sister-in-law, Lucine Schrimsher, were both in the living room when the explosion happened. Both women said the explosion looked like a white cloud of smoke and was so powerful it knocked a 15 pound salt lamp from the shelf, shattered the light bulb inside of it and knocked a decoration from across the room off of the wall. “It could have blown my head off if it had been in my mouth,” said Clark.

The most important thing is to make sure that the riskes associated with smoking are far greater than smoking real tobacco and even in light of these recent exploding e cigarettes the benefits outweigh by far smoking real tobacco.

Please comment and share your thoughts on this latest e cigarette explosions. And if you would now still rather smoke real cigarettes over electronic cigarettes please let us know.

Tighter Controls Over E Cigarette Needed

Do we really need tighter control over e cigarettes

With more an more brands of e cigarettes coming onto the market “experts” are saynig there needs to be more studies on the e cigarette.

The e cigarette seems to be doing a great job helping people to stop smoking, everyday we hear from people who have used the electronic cigarette to stop smoking – its a little bit like choosing a brand of cigarettes for real, you want one that tastes right and smokes well and has the right amount of nicotine for you.

Sometimes it takes ages till you find the right brand for you and sometimes you never find it, so we need many different electronic cigarette brands to choose from as everyone has a different taste and budget.

Experts demand tighter controls on e-cigarettes

HEALTH experts are demanding tighter controls on electronic cigarettes amid fears customers could be exposed to poisonous chemicals.

The nicotine vapour inhaler devices are not subject regulation, and fears are growing that people could be subjected to “unclean” and “unsafe” products.

The devices hit the headlines earlier this year when it emerged Standard Life had banned its employees from smoking e-cigs at their desks.

E cigs

ASH Scotland warned evidence on e-cigs was “limited”.

Many of the e-cigs brands readily available in the UK are imported without control and inspection from other countries, including China.

E-cigs do not contain tobacco and therefore are not regulated by Tobacco Product Regulations, they are also not classed as medical devices so can not be regulated in the same way as other nicotine replacement products.

The devices, which can be charged through a computer USB port, were invented by a Chinese pharmacist in 2004.

Prof John Britton, chair of the Royal College of Physicians Tobacco Advisory Group, said that regulating e-cigarettes would ensure a “guaranteed standard” for consumers was met.

He said: “Electronic cigarettes have the potential to save thousands of lives, but the fact that they are unregulated is bad as it leaves people open to using unclean and unsafe products.

“Electronic cigarettes can not be seen as being as safe as other regulated nicotine replacement therapies which meet pharmaceutical standards, these products are tested and have additives in them that we know to be safe – e-cigarettes don’t have this.

“The concept of nicotine replacement is powerful and good, but e-cigarettes are really testing this system – they are new and they are unregulated. Regulation would be useful and it would be nice to clean up the loopholes.

“At the moment electronic cigarettes may list the contents on the side of the packet, but there is no way of proving that this is the true content as there is no regulation.

“Electronic cigarettes are probably positive and if everyone switched to e-cigarettes it could potentially save millions of lives, but regulation would certainly be useful at this time,” he added.

A lack of regulation has led several countries, including Canada, Australia, and Singapore to ban the products because of fears over possible side-effects. Read more about Experts demand tighter controls on e-cigarettes...

I think that e cigarette should be made available on health systems for free, the fact that govt are making such a big stink is sic and that fact that thousands of people around the world are using them to stop smoking is a positive element that should not be made hard to get.

Please share you thoughts and comment below on this.

Are E Cigarettes Safe Or Bad Like Tobacco?

If e cigarette smokers follow normal tobacco etiqutte what would happen?

Im not sure if this is really a moot point or not, but the fact of the matter is that there is no tobacco in e cigarettes and should obvioulsy not be classed as a tobacco product. It angers me to hear these ridiculous claims made by governements and “experts”, do these experts all smoke? are they trying to kick the habit? All these questions need to be answered if there is going to be a non biased ruling, especially where there are millions if not billions of tax dollars to be made from the regulation of these devices – you have to ask the question, what is this all really about.

Isnt it about saving lives and leading healthier lives? So whats wrong with the e cigarette?

The e cigarette or electronic cigarette is a great device that although we may not know the exact long terms effects of using nicotine in this way – we definitely know that tobacco is a lot worse than an e cigarette and should be hailed as a modern day miracle for smokers.

Here is a very interesting debate I found on the e cigarete at Digital Trends, I really found it interesting and you do as well.

Digital Trends’ staffers Amir Iliaifar and Andrew Couts argue over proper e-cigarette etiquette, and whether or not they should adhere to the same regulations as conventional smokes.

We all know smoking is bad for you – but what about electronic smoking? New technology means we now have electronic cigarettes, which eliminate many of the health risks of the real thing. Still, there are vapors from the devices that likely won’t harm others, but they might be annoying.

Staff writers Andrew Couts and Amir Iliaifar debate whether or not e-cigarettes should be allowed in public or if they should fall under the same regulations as the real deal.

question

Andrew

andrew-coutsAs with any new technology, it takes some time for the general public to get used to its existence. Such is the case with e-cigarettes, which are quickly becoming a popular way for people to quit smoking, or to keep “smoking” without the stink and tar that goes with tobacco cigarettes. Now, I have been “vaping,” as e-cigarette users call it, for a few months now, and I believe it is a vast improvement over the tobacco version. Not only do I feel better, but I’m far less offensive to the people around me. It is for this reason, and the fact that studies so far show that vaping is far less unhealthy to both the person doing it and the people around them than tobacco smoke, that I believe we should not apply the same limitations to vaping as we do to smoking cigarettes.

Should e-cigarettes be allowed in bars, restaurants, and planes? Absolutely. Why not? There is absolutely no evidence so far that the vapor from e-cigarettes causes any of the health problems associated with tobacco cigarettes. Plus, there is essentially no smell, and the vapor cloud evaporates almost immediately. In fact, if you want to be particularly polite, you can simply hold in the vapor longer and it almost entirely dissipates. In other words, all of the reasons to send smokers outside are rendered completely moot when applied to vapers. Just because the activity looks the same doesn’t mean it is.

Amir

Amir-IliaifarAndrew, Andrew, Andrew… I’m sorry to burst your bubble but you’re wrong, and there are two main things I take issue with in regards to your argument. First, while I agree that it can take time for the general public to become comfortable with “new technology” e-cigarettes are not the same thing as a tablet or smartphone. It may have taken time for people to adjust to texting or even using the internet, but there are no passive health risks to you if I whip out my iPhone while we’re sitting at a table. On the other hand, you whipping out an e-cigarette and “vaping” in front of me could have a negative impact on my health.

Second, while you state  there is no conclusive evidence on the ill effects of smoking e-cigarettes – a sentiment not surprisingly shared by the e-cigarette industry – a recent study conducted by members of the Center for Global Tobacco Control at the Harvard School of Public Health have shown that simply isn’t true. In fact, the study suggested that smoking e-cigarettes may actually have a far quicker negative impact on smokers, restricting their airways even faster than a conventional cigarette.

But hey, how about I give you the benefit of the doubt and say that studies are indeed inconclusive. Scientists, and even the FDA, argue that there needs to be sufficient long-term studies – which I agree, there should be. At the same time, because we don’t know how severe the effects may be, shouldn’t we just play it safe and exercise some common courtesy by adhering to the same etiquette applied to conventional smokers? I think so….More at DT Debates: Should e-cigarette smokers follow traditional tobacco etiquette?

Please go through to the main site and read the whole debate and please come back here and let me know what you thought and what you views are on this and if you think this is getting ridiculous already?!

Electronic Cigarettes Going Mainstream

It looks like electronic cigarettes are going to be available a bit more readily

Sotera are getting a large amount of money to take the electronic cigarette to the next level. Electronic cigarettes are becoming more and more popular with smokers savings thousands of dollars a year on tabocco costs, and thats only money, by using electronci cigarettes you get save your health as well!

There seems to bit a lot of controversy surrounding electronic cigarette with the FDA making “a big stink” over its use and classification and keeo trying to suppress this device from hitting the masses, I wonder why?

Below is an article I found about the investment and plans of Sotera to heavily market the electronic cigarette like never before.

Sottera gets $20 million to invest in electronic cigarettes

Scottsdale-based Sottera Inc., dba NJOY, received a $20 million investment from Greenwich, Conn.-based Catterton Partners, a consumer focused private equity firm.

The money will be used to market NYOY’s electronic cigarette product.

Plans call for hiring a handful of sales and marketing employees to help increase brand awareness of the NJOY product line. The company finished 2011 with 12 employees and now has 16.

“We certainly plan on hiring more,” said Craig Weiss, president and CEO of NJOY.

While he would not release annual revenue for the private company, he did say the company doubled its revenue every six months over the past 18 months through 2011. It also ended 2011 profitable for the first time, Weiss said.

The company would have achieved profitability sooner if not for a $2 million lawsuit it filed against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Even though the company won the lawsuit, the federal government does not pay a plaintiff’s legal fees if it loses, he said.

In May 2009, the FDA had seized shipments of NJOY products as well as those of a competitor at U.S. Customs. NJOY filed a lawsuit against the FDA seeking an injunction to prevent them from seizing its products and regulating it as a drug.

“We ultimately got an injunction against the FDA in federal district court in Washington in January 2010, but the FDA appealed,” he said. Please read the full story on the $20 million Sotera are investing in electronic cigarettes

Please share your experiences in the comments below on how you used the electronic cigarette and whether or not you succesfully used it to stop smoking or on anything else you can think of about electronic cigarettes.

John Stossel’s Opinion On Electronic Cigarettes

The Food and Drug Administration has issued new warning label requirements for tobacco cigarette packaging, according to veteran newscaster John Stossel.

Electronic Cigarettes
by johannakoll under CC BY  with wpseopix.com
Nicotine For Electronic Cigarettes

.

Apparently the requirements will require scary color photos of diseased body parts and actual dead bodies. Although the FDA has the power to regulate electronic cigarettes as well, no such warning labels have been issued for packaging and print advertising for electronic cigarettes. And the FDA should certainly not be issuing any drastic warnings, because there’s no proof whatsoever that electronic cigarettes contain any of the over 4,000 toxic chemicals in tobacco smoke. In reality, there’s no comparison between tobacco cigarettes and electronic cigarettes. They just look similar.
In an article online, Stossel shared several quotes that underscore his personal opinion clearly. He wonders what could be wrong with electronic cigarettes that contain no tobacco, and produce only water vapor, no smoke at all. He is not alone in his thinking.

Stossel’s article quotes New York Times science columnist John Tierney with writing the following bit of common sense about trace amounts of chemicals found in the liquid used in electronic cigarettes: “The agency has never presented evidence that the trace amounts actually cause any harm, and it has neglected to mention that similar traces of these chemicals have been found in other FDA-approved products, including nicotine patches and gum.”  And another quote from professor Brad Rodu, of the University of Louisville, printed in the Harm Reduction Journal reminds readers that traces of chemicals found by the FDA in one study of electronic cigarettes were “…about 1 million times lower concentrations than are conceivably related to human health.”

What is the FDA Thinking About Electronic Cigarettes?

This is significant evidence that electronic cigarettes will surely grow in popularity as tobacco cigarettes suffer increased bad publicity due to the stiff new packaging requirements. Surely opponents of electronic cigarettes will begin to see the light. Yet another professor named Michael Siegel, of the Boston University School of Public Health is quoted as saying, “It boggles my mind why there is a bias against e-cigarettes among antismoking groups…” Users of electronic cigarettes as well as non-users have a hard time understanding why the FDA is not in favor of promoting electronic cigarettes as a smoking cessation device. At this time electronic cigarettes cannot be promoted for that purpose. Yet Stossel writes, “A new study from Italy found that after 24 weeks, half of all smokers using the e cigarettes reduced their consumption of the real McCoy by 50 percent. And a quarter gave up smoking altogether.”  That is a truly encouraging statistic, much more consistent with the experience of many former smokers, now happy users of electronic cigarettes posting on forums online.

Most encouraging of all, Stossel concludes, “The American Association of Public Health Physicians calculated that electronic cigarettes might ‘…save the lives of 4 million of the 8 million current adult American smokers.”

So, one of America’s top investigative reporters has spoken on the subject of the FDA and electronic cigarettes, and he has quoted other authorities who agree that electronic cigarettes should be allowed to have an important place in the future of nicotine delivery. While that phrase might not sound too romantic, it is, after all, the whole point of smoking tobacco cigarettes. And it is also the whole point of using electronic cigarettes for smokers who desire to reduce their consumption of tobacco while moving in the direction of eliminating tobacco entirely. It may be that the scientific community, the medical community and the enthusiastic community of vapers who all understand that it’s really all about nicotine delivery will eventually catapult electronic cigarettes into the conscious awareness of the general public and override the political pressures of special interest groups. The reality is that smokers who experiment with electronic cigarettes usually find themselves somewhat fascinated by the experience, and they continue to experiment with different styles, models and brands of electronic cigarettes until finding just the right one that suits their own tastes. Tobacco smokers all have individual preferences and smoking styles and the same can be said about users of electronic cigarettes. “Different smokes for different folks,” is a popular phrase that could be translated as “different vapes for different folks.” Once again, it’s all about personal preferences in the strength and also the flavor of nicotine delivery in a smokeless product.
